Review - Delicatessen

IMDB, Wikipedia
Score: 3.5/5
Language: French (with English Subs)

Genre: Urban Fantasy, black comedy

Summary: In a surreal post-apocalyptic France, Louison (Dominique Pinon) an unemployed circus performer, gains a job doing building maintenance in a apartment building. Clapet (Jean-Claude Dreyfus), owner of the building also runs the Delicatessen on the ground floor. He has ulterior motives for hiring Louison.

Comments: Delicatessen is one of the films I've been wanting to see for a long time and up till now had not managed to get around to it. Thanks to being lent the DVD from a friend I've finally managed to watch and enjoy the film. Ranging from the quirky characters to various amusing scenes, it was worth watching. While the humour had me smiling a lot of the times, I laughed out loud only a couple of times (but then, I don't think it's meant to be a laugh out loud style comedy).  At times the style of Delicatessen reminded me of The City of Lost Children, which considering it has the same people behind them is unsurprising.

Having said all that the film left little lasting impact on me which is why I didn't rate it higher.

Really? I'd rate it much higher. If nothing else Jeunet's films leave a lasting visual impact

At least you enjoyed it after waiting so long, and finally watched a DVD I lent you; maybe you should do Apocalypse next. :)
